Major releases by Chopard Watches in the 21st Century

Over the years Chopard has designed various watch and jewellery collections for ladies and gentlemen all around the world. Each of the unique collections has a story behind them and their place in the Chopard universe.

Chopard watches have been known to be more fun and contemporary focused compared to its competitors. The company prides itself on their hand-crafted calibres that is uniquely designed with hand-engraved floral finishing and raised motifs which set it apart from any other watch in the market.  Other movements can be found in the L.U.C collection and they offer impressive power reserves such as the sixty-five hour power reserve on the calibres that have LUC Twin technology.

These movements have a double barrel which allows the watches to run for longer periods without winding down.

Let’s take a look into some of the most sought after, successful and major releases/ collections by Chopard watches in the 21st century.

Classic Racing

The Classic Racing collection brings together models that draw their inspiration from the world of motor racing, such as the Superfast, Mille Miglia, Jacky Ickx and Grand Prix de Monaco Historique watches.

The Chopard classic racing watches as a whole have some of the best fit and finishing, as well as great attention to detail. They are built on a Swiss ETA 2892 automatic base with a chronograph and a big date module. The movements have power reserves of up to 40 hours and are COSC Chronometer certified.

In 2014 Chopard unveiled its redesigned Grand Prix de Monaco Historiques Chrono automic watch collection for the first time at Baselworld. The revisited Monaco Historique collection drew the attention of classic car enthusiasts familiar with the collection of vintage Formula 1 classic car inspired design.

The redesigned Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chrono Automatic collection was presented in a sporty 44.5 mm bead-blasted titanium case. The silver dial has fine grooves and sports an outer scale displayed vibrant yellow, a colour that has longed served as a visual warning for Grand Prix drivers emerging from the Monaco tunnel at speeds in excess of 250 km/hr.

The watch has been technically designed to perform much like the cars that race at the Grand prix de Monaco. It delivers a high standard of performance with a self-winding chronograph movement renowned for its endurance, which has both been tested and certified by COSC. The stunning watch also has a power reserve of 46 hours.

The polished steel case-back is engraved with the Automobile club de Monaco logo and its redesigned enhanced lugs ensure comfort. The titanium crown is duly screw-locked and protected by a bead-blasted shoulder guard.

The co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele was very pleased with the reintroduction of the new collection as he could relate to the watches due to his love for historical cars.

Chopard has served as a sponsor and official timekeeper for Grand Prix de Monaco Historique since 2002.

Happy Diamonds

The Happy Diamonds collection is part of Chopard’s DNA. This immediately identifiable collection displaying freely-moving diamonds has successfully moved with the times, and comes in a wide range of different versions.

The design of these watches is dedicated to daring and free-spirited women. Created in 1976, Chopard’s Happy Diamonds watch is the jewel in the crown of Chopard’s female collection, with mobile diamonds which appear to float around the movement, spinning freely between two transparent sapphire crystals.

The watch defines elegance and boasts of superior craftsmanship, it is highly renowned for its blend of distinctive feature, remarkable quality, creativity, innovative design, modern technology and loyalty to the traditional craftsmanship; Chopard’s radiant timepieces are a sincere tribute to women.

In 2016, the company celebrated the watch’s 40th anniversary and the brand went back to the concept’s root by releasing a limited edition time piece that channels the spirit of innovation.

Constructed in the same cushion-shaped case as the original, the dazzling 18-carat white gold timepiece features a bezel with prong-set diamonds; a white mother-of-pearl dial; a mini sub-dial set with diamonds for time indication; and 15 mobile Happy Diamonds of various sizes within.

For the first time in the history of the style, the free-floating diamonds are prong set (instead of held in a base) to enhance their radiance.

Happy Sport

Happy Sport watch which was first introduced in 1993 is one of Chopard’s great classics and has been popular with the ladies as it combines steel, gold and diamonds to form a highly sophisticated and sporty watch. Since its creation, this model has evolved into various other models.

The Happy Sport watch has become established as one of the firm’s showcase collections. The different alternatives have made this watch as essential as any contemporary classic watch.

In 2013 Chopard celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Happy Sport watch with the launch of brand new models.

When Chopard presented its first Happy Sport Diamond watch, it was a daring move by Caroline and her brother Karl-Friedrich Scheufele because the design was unusual; a sporty watch with diamonds spinning across the dial.

The Happy sport has thrived since 1993 catering to the desires of a fresh generation of luxury-lovers. The design has evolved from its first appearance in a round stainless steel to include the latest oval shape as well as precious metals and even plastic.

The diamonds spinning around concept was credited to Caroline Scheufele’s mother; she once remarked that “Diamonds are happiest when they are free”.

In 2012 the brand released the Happy Fish watch with its unique and charming features. This exuberant time piece from Chopard gives a glimpse of the underwater world and is available in two different styles; one is a stainless steel style while the other is a rose gold style that has a bezel that is set with diamonds.

This watch is available in a variety  of sizes, the case is available in stainless steel and solid 18 carat gold, is waterproof to 30 meters. The crown on the watch case is set with a sapphire and inside the case is precise quartz movement that powers this watch and provides the necessary functions including hours, minutes, seconds and in some models date and chronograph function. As is expected in all Happy diamonds watches, the most prominent feature of this Happy Fish watch are floating diamonds inside the dial in the shapes of a fish.

In 1994, Chopard created a collection of watches inspired by French Empire finery. Since 2010 Chopard has been reinventing the Imperiale line, with a series of ultra-sophisticated watches featuring imposing shapes, luxurious materials, and clasps studded with cabochons at both ends, reminiscent of Napoleonic columns.

The Imperiale collection is an ode to all modern woman that are tirelessly active, yet at all times extremely sophisticated. For this unique design, it was clear that the intention was not to define this creation as watch or jewellery, but rather they chose to combine the two skills on which the company has built their reputation.

The overall result is a blend of Haute Joaillerie and Haute Horlogerie that truly sets a new standard for complicated feminine watches; it consists of a Tourbillon calibre housed within an 18-carat case and dial entirely set with diamond while demonstrating an experienced range of the artisans commanding gem-setting techniques. The sculptural play of curves and straight lines on the Imperiale watch is expressed in a sophisticated blend of materials.

The subtle combination of stainless steel and 18 carat rose gold on the case and bracelet and the delicate mother-of-pearl on the dial makes this a truly majestic watch. As a final touch, the crown is adorned with an amethyst.

L.U.C. is a traditional fine watch making collection, fully designed, developed and produced in-house by Chopard. Timepieces bearing the initials L.U.C. feature a very high level of technical requirements and extremely careful attention to detail – and are decorated by hand.

Since 1996 and the inauguration of the Chopard Manufacture, ten families of movements with a total of 73 different alternatives have been produced, the great majority of them with COSC certification, and many of them bearing the Geneva Seal or the Qualité Fleurier label. Limited edition Chopard models were also introduced which included the L.U.C. 150 ‘all in one’ which followed the equation of time series, and was truly a work of art, enhanced by the Tourbillon feature. It is embellished by Poincon de Geneve craftsmanship.

The L.U.C 1937 is a model issued by Chopard in order to highlight its watchmaking traditions; 1937 was a significant year because it was the year the company was moved to Geneva.

The L.U.C Engine one Tourbillon is a master piece built according to the principle of traditional watchmaking powered by a L.U.C Calibre 1 TRm engine; this model featured fine demonstration of the close links between Chopard and motor sports. The superb movement is built according to an approach common with the automotive industry; its machine is modeled after an engine block.

Red Carpet Collection

The Red Carpet Collection is a selection of the most outstanding items in the Fine Jewellery Collection. The collection was created in 2007 on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, coincidentally, also the tenth anniversary of its partnership with Chopard.

Drawing inspiration from the stars and the magical moments on the red carpet, it comprises exceptional, unique timepieces, combining rare and spectacular stones, creative innovation, and respect for the traditional knowhow of a Fine Jewellery workshop.

The company crafted 70 special pieces that was unveiled at the event, instead of the expected safe, classic diamonds they opted for a vibrant kaleidoscope of colours in fine gemstones that will unapologetically set premium accessories magpies alight.

The brand decided to opt for daring, vivid and jaw dropping approach for the festival this year, with shiny new creations featuring sparkling gemstones that will dazzle on and off the red carpet. The red Carpet collection combines 18 carat gold, white gold and Rose gold with diamonds, colourful sapphires, tanzanite, amethyst and rubelite.

Defining a favourite piece from the entire collection is going to be tough because Chopard only features classy and beautiful models with sophisticated movements inside. Firmly committed to innovation and unceasingly renewed creativity, the company continues to produce watches which exude sophistication and technical refinement.

The company continues to create new concepts and technologies for the future of Chopard watches and has seen its research and development department patent over 14 new watchmaking innovations.

In 2014 the company introduced the L.U.C Tourbilon QF Fairmined, which it called the first watch made with “Fairmined” Gold because the gold was sourced from South America and mined in a sustainable and responsible manner. The miners had also received their fair pay.

Chopard recently announced that it has set the target of buying a significant percentage of “Fairmined” gold from South American corporations in the future.
